As someone questioned the future of Roco and Fleischmann in another thread, the following may be of interest:

Today (Jan. 15, 2018), Roco released to new catalogs, available immediately for download from the factory Web site, and also being produced in printed form:
  • 2018 new items catalog (172 pages)
  • 2018 start program catalog (46 pages)
These are in addition to the 2017 main catalog released in late 2017 (236 pages).  All of these catalogs focus primarily on HO, though some accessories are scale-independent.

There is some minor overlap among the three above-mentioned catalogs, but there is lots of new material in the two newest catalogs, particularly in the 2018 new items catalog.

Some highlights:
  • New versions of the Z21 software (for tablets and smartphones) with additional features
  • Many new versions of the Siemens Vectron locomotives, including one of the Austrian Federal Railways -- which is not expected to receive its first prototype Vectron until February.
  • New versions of the era 4-5 Schlieren passenger cars, in both Austrian and Swiss (SBB and BLS) versions
  • More factory-weathered freight cars
  • A modified system of pictograms identifying properties of various models, primarily motive power (Pictograms now include indication of minimum radius for locomotives.)
  • New versions of previously available locomotives -- now with LED lighting and Plux22 or Plux16 decoder sockets
  • Many factory-equipped digital locomotives now have buffer capacitors to ensure smooth operation on dirty track (This is indicated by a new pictogram.)
  • A number of passenger and freight car sets of cars with different operating numbers, making it easier to build realistic trains.
But, even if you are not into HO or particularly focusing on Roco, these catalogs are well worth looking at for some spectacular prototype and layout photos, many of them full page or even double-page spreads.  As previously, some layout photos are from the First Salzburg Model Railroad Club; others were taken on the Porsche dream layout.

Yes, I'd still like for Roco to include the UN code for the hazardous materials that tank cars are labeled for.

But, on the whole, these catalogs provide lots of good material worth looking at.  And, at some point, I intend to try to get a paper copy, at least of the new items catalog.  From a quick review, the new products catalog does not offer availability dates for the new items, though those can presumably be found later on the Roco factory Web site.
